Style Spotlight: Neutrals

Spring 2011

Neutrals always come round in various styles and forms each season. For Spring 2011, designers like Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren added interest to neutral palettes using textured fabrics and ruffles. Luxe fabrics and structured pieces give an edge to evening outfits, whilst the maxi-trench makes several appearances! Here are just a few runway picks:

Salvatore Ferragamo; Hermes

Maurizio Pecoraro

Ralph Lauren; Marc Jacobs

Weekend Chic

I spotted this pink dress in H&M recently and had to include it in an outfit set! Although it may look plain and shapeless, a few accessories can make a big difference. A skinny belt worn loosely around the waist breaks up the colour-block, as does adding a long necklace or pendant. I'd team with some navy chinos or jeans, and add a patterned hijab for relaxed weekend outfit. Although I've not included it in the set, a thin jersey long-sleeve top will probably be needed underneath as the sleeves are annoyingly sheer!

Flared crêpe dress £14.99; Dark blue chinos £9.99, both H&M; Bernstein small shoulder bag £49, Fiorelli; Crinkle hijab £5.99, Hijab Fashion Shop; Gold jali work 3 drop pendant £6, Manumit; Tan weave embossed belt £6, Dorothy Perkins; Xantoa shoe £24.98, Aldo.

Summer Style: Green Elegance

An outfit post has been long overdue here; so something glamorous is definitely in order! Summer eveningwear can be a real challenge, but this is one simple outfit which requires minimal layering. This beautiful deep green dress from Zara is the focal point of the outfit, so I'd keep other colours to a minimum and pair with a cropped grey jacket and silver hijab (which I've reviewed previously here). Jewellery and accessories add a hint of sparkle too:

Style Inspiration: Mint Velvet

I recently came across the Mint Velvet brand whilst browsing the John Lewis website. I instantly loved their range, which includes plenty of tunics, maxi skirts and dresses in beautiful prints and fabrics. A lot of the styling is quite modest too. These are a few of the more hijab-ready looks, although there are plenty more on their website:
