Style Notes: Bally

Spring 2011

Swiss brand Bally has offered up some sleek, minimal pieces for Spring, with simple maxi skirts and dresses, trimmed with leather. Whilst the jackets and skirts together might be a little too plain for some, individually they seem quite versatile. What do you think of these looks?

Style Notes: Andrew Gn

Spring 2011

Anyone else fed up with knitwear now? It's definitely time for a look at some fresh style inspiration for Spring. Andrew Gn's collection particularly includes plenty of modest style ideas. I love the bright maxi skirts and smart, longer-length tailored jackets. It took me a while to notice, but many of the models are also wearing co-ordinating headwraps and turbans too!

The Veiled Threat - New Trailer

Last December, some of you may remember that I put out a request for Muslim women to take part in a documentary with Rabia Z called 'The Veiled Threat'. I posted an introductory promo previously here, but this is a more updated one, featuring myself and Sarah Elenany! (Can you tell I was nervous?) Also many thanks to Hijab Style readers Amelie and Malika for taking part too!

Akhawat Abaya Couture Launch

Akhawat Abaya Couture is a new company launching an exclusive range of handmade couture abayas this month. All the abayas are made bespoke, allowing you to tailor your abaya to your exact measurements, chosen colour and embroidery. The Akhawat website will be launching early this year, until then all of the abayas can be previewed on their Facebook page.

Akhawat are currently running a competition for the Spring/Summer 2011 launch, where they are asking for creative names for their abayas. There are £50 vouchers up for grabs for each of the 25 abayas names, and a £200 voucher for the overall winner. You can find further details of the competition here, closing date is January 15th 2011.

Here are just a few photos of the abayas and shaylas they design; you can see the rest on their Facebook page here and here.

Style Classics: Leopard Print

This season, I've been a big fan of wearing neutral pieces, accented with printed scarves. Leopard print is one style classic that I love; team with simple browns, khakis and beiges, and add statement gold jewellery to finish off. Seeing as it's still pretty cold enough here, I'd layer a long sleeve top underneath the shirtdress, and add a long cardigan too:

Khaki oversized shirt dress £46, Topshop; High waist flared cotton trousers £29.99, Zara; Leopard print oversize scarf £16, Topshop; Forearm sleeves - light beige £1.99, Hijab Fashion Shop; Light tan 'Ray' wedge courts £23, Debenhams; Gold brass flower engraved cuff £8, Manumit; Fiorelli Clerkenwell Buckle Shoulder Bag £65, ASOS.
