Leather Love

This autumn, the biker trend has taken the high street by storm. However, leather has been a key wardrobe choice for some time now - I posted about wearing leather jackets with maxi dresses back in June here. This season, try wearing one with a black abaya, or over a tunic and jeans.

I love that you can always rely on Mango for maxi skirts, and black is an essential for Autumn and Winter. Pair with a tan leather jacket layered over a graphic print tee or vest which you can loosely tuck in to the skirt. Add a stylish pair of ankle boots, black hijab and studded leather bag to keep the look current:

Leather Love
Wrangler leather jacket £131, Oli; black skirt £45, Mango; cream sketch print beaded vest £20, Miss Selfridge; black pashmina £6.99, Scarf World; Gillem ankle boots £90, Aldo; studded bow cross body bag £22, Monsoon.

Hint: For a subtle nod to the biker trend, try wearing a studded bonnet cap underneath your hijab.

The tee is so gorgeous I'd stick a long-sleeved shirt under it and do without the leather jacket! Btw I'm confused about the use of leather in Islam, given the prohibition on hunting...

Salaams and Ramadaan Mubarak.

I follow your blog via my Google Reader and just yesterday I was thinking of leaving a comment to say, what a twist a leather (or even denim) jacket gives when wearing it with an abaya. Leather is my new favourite thing.

Great blog, keep it up.

Wow! I love the look especially how the caramel colour of the jacket comes off against the black maxi skirt

caraboska- I couldn't afford a real leather jacket anyway, so it's a moot point for me. :D
I love this set & especially the bag- well done, masha'Allah!

I've been looking into faux leather myself. Needless to say, I love the set. I personally found the studded bonnet cap subversive (a good thing, in my opinion). A biker hijabi. Heehee...

To the sister who is confused about wearing leather because hunting is prohibited. Commercially, leather is not from hunted game. Not that I know of, anyway. So that shouldn't be an issue.

I personally find wearing dead skin a bit iffy (full stop) but still... They do look nice... Makes you look fierce!

Faux leather for the win, I guess! They're cheaper too. ;)

ps: Just wanted to share an alternative perspective, not being provocative. :)

Am sorry to say, you can't beat leather for a nice looking biker jacket, although DP is selling a nice looking one grey and black now!!!! My sister managed to snap up a bargain DKNY jacket from TK Maxx for 79 quid (it was 300 before!) Am still on the lookout for one now, can't really say I'm willing to spend as much though! :(

Assalaamu alaikum,

Just to remind sisters that we have to be careful when buying leather products as some items, like shoes, may be made from pig leather with is prohibited to wear. Here are some links which explain further:

Wasalaam =)
