Abaya Style File

Abaya design in Dubai has shifted away recently from styles that primarily focused on embroidery and embellishment along sleeves, to more creative cuts and draping fabric. These are a few images of Muna bin Kalli, General Director of the Dubai Ladies Club, (aka the Marie Claire abaya girl) that I scanned in from the April 2009 issue of Hia Magazine. Although not 100% hijab appropriate - the sleeves could do with lengthening for one, I do love the use of the bronze panelled fabric, and of course the Grecian-inspired cut:

Hopefully abaya retailers in the UK will catch on soon. To see more of latest in Gulf abaya designs, check out my post on the most recent edition of Dubai Fashion Week.

I think what is nice about these abaya's is that they are very flowy and they have big sleeves. Its very Victorian except its a lot looser at the top part too. This makes abaya's very elegant and feminine.
