I did a post a while ago about hijab and hats, Ascot style, and recently came across this stunning photo on flickr. It was taken at the Dubai World Cup, which took place in March 2009. These ladies really know how to work dressy hats and fascinators with their hijabs, and the bold colour choices keep the look fresh. Certainly a nice change from the usual race day fashion choices!

i really love the purple
Wow, this actually looks pretty good!
wow, i like.. as paris hilton would say.. "that's hot" masha'Allah. :)
such a beautiful pic!
I want that purple hat! As a matter of fact, can I have her dress, too? That is an amazing outfit. These women are uber-stylish!
loove the the purple Abaya :D
Very cute, MashaAllah!
one word: FABTASTIC :D
the outfits are great, but not the hat it is not for US muslim women.
x l, LOL could you just imagine Paris on race day?!
Anon, everytime I do a post on hats I get the same uninformed comments. US Muslim women have been wearing hats over hijabs for years. It's actually common with the traditional dress of many countries like Saudi and Yemen. Check out these links for more:

WOW i love the pink 1, in fact im gonna buy a feather alice band thing similar to do it with :-D
I love this pic! very beautiful!
I love the purple abaya, not the hat though. The lady in the pink abaya with her stylish hat works her look perfectly masha'Allaah.
Beautiful post jana!! mashallah!

What a fab idea!! I'm going to see if I can mix my hijab scarves with my awesome flowered hats...
IMHO the purple hat is everything hijaab shouldn't be about. I think I'd be staring at her hat the whole time instead of watching the race 8-) The rest of her outfit is lovely m'A!
I do like the feathery mini-hat worn by the lady in pink & turquoise, though I think it would look more fab at a wedding or gala instead.
Mariyam, on race day EVERYONE wears loud hats - it's pretty much part of the dress code. I have no idea why anyone would stare more at her rather than any other woman wearing a hat?!
Oh gosh, my apologies, I didn't realize hats were worn to the races? Sorry, us Americans can be clueless on culture :) In that case, lovely hat :)
this is stunning!
