At this year's Middle East International Film Festival (
MEIFF) in Abu Dhabi, which ran October 15th-19th, some celebrities swapped backless gowns for more traditional dress. UAE designer
Rania Al Bastaki, who I profiled back in September, dressed actresses like Susan Sarandon and Eva Green in beautiful abayas for the event. I think they look lovely!

wow! its really nice to see celebs opting for a more "modest look". they look gorgeous!!!!
I saw Eva Green wear another hijab friendly dress in another website. The dress was from Gucci, a bit tight but more covered than what she wears usually. Tell me what you think. Check it on this link

i have the mini me version of susan sarandon's abaya!! i used to wear it a lot when i was little!
Yes, the 'stars' look very beautiful, but to finish the look, i can picture a beautiful hijab. The hair exposed is not pretty to me..looks like it's an unfinished look, with flowing garments. All in all, i agree, this shows that you can dress modestly and be beautiful!

The star's are dressed for the house (Emirati women in general don't wear those dresses on the street). I like the look though. I always feel Eva Green looks lovely, but Susan Sarandon totally outshone her in the khaleeji dress. Maybe this is one less excuse for girls not to wear jilbabs?
Susan Sorandon is a TRUE star! I love her!
Great post Jana :)
those aren't abayas..those are traditional clothes worn underneath the abayas! :)
btw, i love your blog!
