Catch me in emel!

The team at emel magazine asked me a while back to contribute to their fashion pages. You can catch me in their November 50th issue edition. The feature consists of a small intro to myself and the blog, a photo of yours truly and ladies' outfit sets. You can buy the magazine at selected branches of WHSmith, Asda, Tesco, Borders and all good newsagents. Hope you like the feature!

I like your site very much. I'm not a muslim, but I like abayas and arabic clothes very much!

Since I'm a novice, I'd like to ask you a question: are the colorful dresses for women meant to be worn with an abaya over them? Or you go out like that?
I ask this because I see a lot of colorful dresses in shops in Dubai, but I don't understand if you use them only in a house or also around.
For example those in, trendy collection, are "finished" dress or you have to put on an abaya.
I'd like to buy something colored in Dubai, but I don't know where.

Hey i have a burning question, it would be br8 if sisters could contribute. I want to know how you sisters manage to do Wudhou for all the five prayers , particularly when your at work or going out.I find it a hassle to undo and redo my sleeves get damp and i cant wash my feets properly. Sisters do you face the same prob? one more question :Is rubbing wet hands over the scarf permissible ?

Take Care

Jana: Mabruk!

Pebble: Colour is permissable for abaya but the dresses you see in Dubai in colours are genrally worn for all women parties. Not out in Dubai.

Anonymous: I wet my hair underneath my hijab with my finger but do not take off my scarf in public. This has been said by the majority of scholars to be permissable. Socks, it is permissable to wipe over if you have wudu before you put them on. Reach under your sleeve with the water as bets you can: D

Thats great, I will make sure I get a copy. Have you seen a draft ? or are you going to see it for the first time and say OMG they went with that picture !! nahh just kidding, I am sure it will be great :D.

PS: Shame we didn't meet at the GPU, but hopefully soon inshalah.

Thanks everyone :D For those who do see it, do let me know what you thought of it!

Pebble: most of those dresses you see are really meant to be worn at home/at ladies' parties. Most women in the Gulf tend to wear black outdoors.

Mouna, if I need to make wudu then I'll go to a single bathroom, or the ladies' prayer room at uni. I just take the hijab off, because I usually wrap it so tightly there's no way I could get my hands in to wipe over my hair. I pull my sleeves up and if I can't wash my feet then wipe over the socks. However I don't think it's permissible to wipe over the hijab itself.

Silvia, I spend aaages trying to get a decent photo lol, but it's fairly small so it looks ok :D Inshallah would love to meet soon!

I saw the cover of emel and wondered which blogger was being mentioned. I got a lovely surprise when I saw your blog mentioned and the lovely outfits mash'Allah. My and my little girl both voted for the evening outfit as our favourites. Well done mash'Allah, you deserve a little recognition.
