Dubai Fashion Week S/S09: Day 1

Dubai Fashion Week began a few days ago, and as I mentioned in the Dubai Style Files, UAE abaya brand Monyati opened up the show. Designers Huda Ridha and Amna Sultan have combined latest runway trends with unusual cuts such as off-the shoulder styles to create gorgeous abayas, some of which are more like evening dresses. This is what I think sets their abaya brand apart, in that it's more than just a bit beading on the sleeves, which is starting to get repetitive and boring.

Rabia Z is set to present her collection of 'Conservative Couture' on 9th October. Can't wait!

I want all of them mashallah. But the one that truly strike my fancy is the 6th row from the bottom. The all balck with a white/creme thin waistband. So simple yet gorgeous!

the abayas are nice but i think past seasons have been much better. it's like they're running out of ideas for our "little black dress" lol

Fashion is good in its sense, especially we are trying out various ways to be creative with "BLACK" cant go wrong. but then are they running out of ideas now, why show shoulders? Are we loosening out on the real purpose of covering ourselves?

I saw someone asked abt RabiaZ collections. Me too, where can i find them?

To be honest, there is only so much you can do with a loose, ankle length, full-sleeved, black dress. Add designs to the sleeves, fabric around the waist, or around the bottom, patterns running vertically... not much else really, otherwise it becomes more like a house-dress than abaya.

As for Rabia Z, I'm not sure where her outlets are, but her website is launching soon inshallah.

I love these abayas, they are gorgeous and very sophisticated. and although the off-the-shoulder abaya (13th pic) is also beautiful, it's wayyy too sexy for an 'abaya'. If I saw a woman wearing that with a headscarf, ahh I'd cringe!
