Famous Faces: Muna AbuSulayman
Muna AbuSulayman is a famous figure in the Middle East. The 34-year-old Saudi co-hosts one of MBC's most popular social programs, Kalam Nawaem. Incidentally, Hijab Style's previous Famous Face - Hanan Turk, was once a guest on the show. Ms. AbuSulayman also serves as Managing Director of the Kingdom Foundation, and has been a lecturer at King Saud University in English Literature since 1997. Read an interview with her here.
Here are some of her achievements:
1. In 2005, she became the first woman in Saudi Arabia to be appointed by the United Nations Development Program as a Goodwill Ambassador.
2. In 2007, the Middle East Excellence Awards Institute presented her with the Achievements in Regional and International Relations Award.
3. In 2007, she was also named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
Here's what she says about hijab:
With modest clothes and colorful head scarves, Muna has probably created a new image for Saudi women without even intending to do so. It is an image that has replaced the mistaken idea that all Saudi women live exclusively behind the veil. “Well, this has made me both sad and glad. I was sad because the majority of women were hesitant to wear the hijab, thinking that it would make them less attractive. At the same time I was glad to find out that many now wear the hijab because they have realized that a woman can be simultaneously modest and elegant. My clothes, which I carefully choose myself, have helped other women to be creative.” Read the rest here.
Muna will also be releasing her own clothing line, which will go on sale in September.
Ladies - this just proves to you that hijab is never, ever a barrier to what you want to achieve in life. The world needs more women like Muna. Mashallah!
