Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all you lovely mummies out there. I take this opportunity to remind everyone the high status Allah has accorded to our mothers, and the love and respect they deserve from us:

"We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents; in pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth" (46:15)

"A man came to the Prophet and said, ‘O Messenger of God! Who among the people is the most worthy of my good companionship? The Prophet said: Your mother. The man said, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man further asked, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your mother. The man asked again, ‘Then who?' The Prophet said: Then your father." (Bukhari, Muslim)

Here is another video from Abaleeso, reminding us to treat other mothers well:

I saw this and called my mom in Guam and my dad said it wasn't Mothers' Day at all it's in May (in the US).
I felt silly.

Thank you for reminding me--even though as a Muslim I don't celebrate non-islamic holidays---I am a revert so my family does so my mother was so touched that I remembered to tell her I loved her and missed her and to share the ayah and hadith you gave here. (sheepishly) thanks for reminding me.

Malandi - oops! Hehe, I'm sure she appreciated the call anyway :)

Alix - You're welcome! Since it's not affiliated to any one religion, and it's not a holiday like Christmas or Easter, I reckon it's a good opportunity to remember our oft-neglected mums!
